If you’re thinking about extending your stay and making a full adventure out of it, we’ve put together a few curated itinerary options for inspiration, plus a list of our most-loved spots in Reykjavík to help you plan. Whether you’re staying for a few days or turning it into a dream trip, we hope it’s magical from start to finish.

Itinerary Options

  • Sept 11 – Reykjavík & Relaxation
    Arrive in Reykjavík and start with a soak at Sky Lagoon or the Blue Lagoon Retreat while you wait to check into your hotel. Explore the city in the afternoon—visit Harpa, wander the colourful streets, and enjoy dinner at Sumac. For cocktails, try Kadli or Tipsy.

    Sept 12 – Golden Circle Road Trip
    Head out early and stop at Hvammsvik Hot Springs—our favourite hidden gem—then explore the Golden Circle: Þingvellir, Geysir, and Gullfoss. Stay nearby at an Airbnb or the cozy Hotel Geysir.

    Sept 13 – Journey to Highland Base
    Continue to the highlands with optional stops at the Secret Lagoon, Öxarárfoss, or hike Hveradalir if you arrive early. We’ll gather that evening for a welcome dinner.

    Sept 14 – Wedding Day!
    Relax, soak, and celebrate surrounded by nature.

    Sept 15 – Head Home
    Depart Highland Base and make your way back to Reykjavík or the airport.

  • Sept 11 – Arrive in Reykjavík + Lagoon Soak
    Start your trip with a visit to the Blue Lagoon (near the airport) or Sky Lagoon (just outside the city). After checking into your hotel, grab coffee at Reykjavík Roasters, explore the city, and visit Harpa. For dinner, we recommend Sumac, with cocktails at Kadli or Tipsy.

    Sept 12 – Thermal River Hike in Selfoss
    Drive to Selfoss (50 min) for the Reykjadalur Hot Spring Thermal River Hike—about an hour each way with a warm river soak at the top. Stay nearby in a Glass House or Airbnb, or return to Reykjavík for the night (50 min drive).

    Sept 13 – Travel to Highland Base
    Drive to Highland Base (2.5–3 hours). Stop along the way or arrive early to hike Hveradalir, a geothermal valley near the hotel. Join us for the welcome dinner that evening.

    Sept 14 – Wedding Day!
    Enjoy the stunning landscape, hot springs, and celebrations.

    Sept 15 – Golden Circle
    Explore Þingvellir, Geysir, and Gullfoss. Stay overnight nearby at Hotel Geysir or a local Airbnb. (Highland Base to Geysir: ~2.5 hours.)

    Sept 16 – Head Home
    Drive back to Reykjavík (1.5–2 hours) and catch your flight home.

  • Sept 11 – Arrive in Reykjavík + Settle In
    Start your trip with a soak at Sky Lagoon or Blue Lagoon, then check into your hotel downtown. Explore the city, visit Harpa, grab dinner at Sumac, and finish the evening with cocktails at Kadli or Tipsy.

    Sept 12 – Golden Circle to Highland Base
    Take your time exploring the Golden Circle: Þingvellir, Geysir, and Gullfoss, then continue on to Highland Base (~2.5 hours from Gullfoss). Total drive from Reykjavík with stops: ~5 hours. Join us for the welcome dinner that evening.

    Sept 13 – Wedding Day!
    Take in the mountain views, soak in the hot springs, and celebrate with us in the heart of the highlands.

    Sept 14 – South Coast to Vík
    Depart Highland Base and head south (~3 hours), stopping at Seljalandsfoss, Skógafoss, and the iconic Black Sand Beach. Stay overnight in Vík or nearby.

    Sept 15 – Glacier Views at Jökulsárlón
    Continue east (~2.5 hours) to Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach. Stay at Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon or a nearby Airbnb for an unforgettable night beside the icebergs.

    Sept 16 – Scenic Return with Overnight Stop
    Begin your return west, but instead of rushing, break up the drive with a stay near Hella, Hvolsvöllur, or Selfoss (~3.5 hours from Jökulsárlón). Choose a cozy Airbnb or a boutique countryside hotel.

    Sept 17 – Return to Reykjavík & Fly Home
    Enjoy a slow morning, then drive the remaining 1.5–2 hours to Reykjavík for your flight home.

  • Reykjavík Highlights: Where to Eat, Drink, and Explore

    Whether you're here for a quick stop or a few days, these are our favourite spots to eat, drink, unwind, and explore in Iceland’s capital city. We’ve included personal touches, hidden gems, and must-do experiences—curated with love.

    Where to Eat

    • Apotek – Our favourite restaurant in the city. Elegant and cozy with a creative Icelandic menu inside a historic pharmacy.

    • Sumac – Stylish and delicious, with bold Middle Eastern-Icelandic fusion and a lively atmosphere.

    • Fish Market (Fiskmarkaðurinn) – A refined seafood dining experience—perfect for a special night out.

    • OX – An intimate, once-in-a-lifetime dining experience. Only 17 seats, and every course is unforgettable. Book far in advance!

    • Messinn – Known for its sizzling fish skillets and warm, rustic atmosphere.

    • Le Kock – A casual, comfort food go-to. This is where we had our first date! Think burgers, wings, and fun vibes.

    • Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur – Iceland’s famous hot dog stand. Don’t leave without trying one—locals and celebs love it.

    • Sandholt – A Reykjavík classic for breakfast or fresh pastries. Beautiful space, great coffee, and incredible baked goods.

    • Deig Workshop – We’re obsessed with their cinnamon cruller (seriously, the best we’ve ever had!) and fresh bagels.

    Where to Drink

    • Kaldi Bar – Our go-to spot. Cozy, unfussy, and great for craft beer. Bonus: it’s the only Black-owned bar in Iceland, and the vibe is always welcoming.

    • Amma Don – Iceland’s only speakeasy, tucked behind a secret door in Snaps Bistro. Modeled after the owner’s late grandmother’s living room, this under-the-radar bar serves incredible cocktails in a super cozy, vintage space.

    • Library Bar at The Edition – Luxe and lounge-y, perfect for a drink by the fire or a quiet conversation.

    • Lemmy – For fans of live rock music, this bar delivers bold vibes and great shows.

    • Hús máls og menningar – A bookshop-bar hybrid with live music, comfy couches, and an eclectic local crowd.

    What to Do & See

    • Harpa Concert Hall – Reykjavík’s architectural gem on the harbour—definitely worth a walk-through or photo stop.

    • Hallgrímskirkja Church – Iconic and towering. Ride the elevator to the top for 360° city views.

    • Laugavegur Street – The city’s main street, perfect for strolling, shopping, and people-watching.

    • Whale Watching Tours – Departing right from the harbour—this is a fun and memorable way to see Iceland’s wildlife and coastline.

    • Sky Lagoon – A stunning oceanside spa just outside the city with a relaxing 7-step ritual.

    • Blue Lagoon – One of Iceland’s most famous geothermal spas, great for a pre- or post-flight soak.

    Where to Stay

    • The Exeter Hotel – Modern and stylish with harbour views, in-house eats, and a perfect location.

    • Canopy by Hilton – Chic, central, and full of character. Walkable to everything.

    • Fosshotel Reykjavík – A solid option for comfort and views, especially if you want hotel amenities with easy access to the main strip.

    • Airbnbs – There are plenty of beautiful stays downtown or just outside the city, often with cozy interiors and walkable locations.
